Hi my 5 year old niece has had to start wearing glasses and she's really upset about it it's a struggle to get her to wear them as she says she looks ugly. We have told her she looks smart etc and have really tried to encourage her. The hospital have put her down as being partially sighted, does anyone know what this means? Will her sight get worse? When she doesn't wear her glasses she really strains her eyes u can see them moving quickly side to side? Does anyone have any experiences like this?

This is different from my experience but I do remember having spectqacles (sounds posher) at the age of 4. At last I could see. My 'rebirth' started when I started to wear contact lenses after more than 60 years and I was able to see my face for the first time in eons without spectacles. If your niece's parents can afford it, it makes so much difference to one's life.

The parents would have to govern how she keeps to the regimen but it's sooo worth it if she feels the way she does.

Unfortunately, they are not available through the NHS.
