Lumps appeared on sons neck, what is it?

Hi just seeing if anyone has had any experience of their child developing the following symptoms:

Muscle fatigue
Headaches
Large Lumps on side of neck not the nodes further back.
Fatigue to the point he is almost falling asleep in class at school.

Ds is 7, up to know very active football mad boy, no health issues to date.

We went to the docs this morning and she immediately wanted blood tests and to go back on Monday morning.

It will probably be nothing but something in my gut is niggling and I want to stop it!

My 6 year old DD had this before Christmas. She had multiple large lumps in her neck. She was diagnosed with lymphitis, or infection of the lymph nodes, and a 7 day course of antibiotics has got her well again. I hope your DS feels better

Thank you, the doctor checked all the usual places for the nodes but all were ok, just the lumps on his neck are not near the lymph nodes which is why we were reffered for the blood test (which he was really brave for after an initial wobbly lip)

Mumps?

I wondered that but they are not around his ears they are along the side and towards the base of his skull.

I guess I shall just have to wait it out and not
google!

Glandular fever? Or post viral something or other? Hope the blood tests will reveal all.

I had mumps at 16, and it was one swelling - I think- behind the ear lobe area. I didn't feel ill at all, just hurt to open my mouth to fill it full of food.
Also had swollen glands in my neck when younger, but that was decades ago, and don't remember anything other than screaming when mum had to put very hot stuff on it and fasten it with a bandage round my head. But it was towards the front of the neck under the jaw on the side.
Also had glandular fever with a lump in similar place when I was about 6, so remember nothing other than the weekly injections in my bum.

I once had lumps all over the top of my head, which was very weird - then a few days later I had shingles. Unlikely in a 6 year old, but possible - especially if the lumps run in a line, if he's been a bit unwell recently, and if it came on suddenly.

My friends daughter had that with glandular fever.

I remember mum telling me it would be 6 weeks of injections, and that she woke me up in her and dad's bed to give me her delicious fish, cut into pieces, but the rest of the time I must have just slept in their bed.

Thankks all, roll on Monday! At the moment he is behaving like a 7 going on 13 year old and his personality has changed almost completely this week, my lovley son has all but disapeared! I put that down to going back to school after the holidays..

Update: 2 bood tests now and he has been confirmed as having Glandular Fever. His white blood cell count i raised also? I don't have any experience or knowledge of GF in children, does anyone have any here?

We have an appointment on Monday to go through the results and if he is needing further tests on the lump. Dr has been fantastic with keeping me informed, going so far as texting the heamatologist and then calling me from her home to update me in the evening. She was also concerned about the lumps and was hugely relieved as I was when the white cell count was fine after the first test.

Just looking for some advice from anyone who has had a child go through this and what I can expect/do to help him.
