Broken leg :(

Was minding my DNieces today and as we were getting in the car to go out, youngest (3yo) slipped on a mud patch and broke her leg. She's going to be in a cast for several weeks. When I left the hospital after DSis arrived she was still really upset and in so much pain. I feel absolutely awful :(

Didn't want to read and not reply :( breaks heal fast at that age. Poor wee thing though and poor you - was your DSis OK about it?

Oh god poor little thing, and you too. My dd broke her leg when she was three last year. Get online and order them a Limbo, will make all the difference if she can get in the bath.
Mine broke her tibia, was a spiral fracture, so hideous. It s easily done though..

She had a full cast for 4 weeks (it came off today). She was fine about 10 mins after the cast was put on and she never needed so much as a dose of calpol.

She has been a bit stiff today (cast off at 10 am) but shows no sign of lasting damage.

I definitely second the Limbo. Dd would have been a nightmare without a bath.

Im sure she will be fine.

DD fractured her leg, the lower part on both bones like a diaganol break when she was 1 and half, once the pot was on she was fine.

My recommendation is invest n one of those big pack of sharpies pens with about 12 different colours, find some one good at drawing or copying and put lots of Mr Men and Little Miss all over it. They were the talking poiint of DD's pot when she was out, (especially with teenagers! so it will boost her cool somewhat!) and kept DD entertained a lot, we still have the pot!

Oh don't feel bad, honestly, my kids haven't broken a bone (touch wood) but there have been many times when I dont know how they didn't - really - all kids have accidents - its not as if you were being irresponsible.

Never heard a cast called a pot before! Where are you from Joyce? :)

Dsis has just texted to say Dniece is doing much better and now home and in bed. She also has a spiral fracture of her tibia, seems it is a common injury based on your responses?

Will definitely look into the limbo and pens.

Pot for the set plaster thijngy, then maybe replace the pot with the lightweight one

do you mean pop Joyce ? as in plaster of Paris ? it's what is known as in hospital. ? not hear of pot before..

I am from Sheffield and I always refer to it as a pot rather than a cast, must be a Yorkshire thing.

Ugh. Sympathies frogspoon. My 7 month old broke his leg when dp fell down the stairs with him. He had a full leg cast (well several as they kept falling off) and was absolutely fine as soon as it was on. The. Good thing is that they heal very quickly when they're little.i

I'm from East Yorkshire and would say pot too.

Ds2 also had a spiral fracture to his tibia when he was 3. At the hospital they called it a "toddler fracture" and said it's the most common break young children have. It's quite worrying when it happens but I'm sure she'll be fine.

Sticker books, colouring pages, soft toys, DVDs and games and the time until the cast comes off will fly by. Also could be a good thing to draw her favourite characters on her cast to make it a bit less boring
