DS still asleep, what to do?

ClutchingPearls · 02/01/2013 13:18

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

another one here hoping he is ok.

ClutchingPearls · 02/01/2013 17:35

Just updated and its disappeared, I've try doing it properly again later.

Just popped home as neighbours have said they will have DDs tonight and sort out school/nursery in the morning (thankfully they start back tomorow) just waiting for her DH to arrive home to take me back.

DS is poorly, he's still not awake but is reacting to them injecting him etc. They have now given him some medication to sedate him a little and let him have a more restfull sleep. They have found 3 chicken pox on the bottom of his foot. They think he has some swelling in/on the brain that's been caused by the chicken pox getting onto his brain. They are scanning him soon to see but have started him on some medication to treat that and said even if it not that causing the swelling the chicken pox aren't helping so they will help him get ridof them. He's had a lumbar puncture but the doctor says that's a precaution. They have said he's poorly but not anymore poorly than the many children they deal with each week, not sure if thats the truth or they are just being kind. Guess it means he's doing ok.

Sorry for the typos I'm now trying on my phone and that likes to make its own words up and puts them anywhere in the sentence.

I just feel so shocked, when I started this thread I was convinced you would all tell me to stop being stupid and not to waste the nurses time. Even in the ambulance I was worrying how we would get home without the pushchair later on today when they discharge us but now this. It was only when the doctors kept on coming to see DS and no one left to see another patient that I thought 'shit, this isn't just sleeping it off'

Thank god you guys kicked me into gear and got me to see sense.I was so convinced I was worrying over nothing,
And now I don't know what to think. Thanks for showing your concern, especially the doctor who rang the MNer back to check I had pulled my finger out.

Can't think passed what I'm going to find at the hospital it still doesn't feel like my little baby whose sick, but when we get back and when he's home safe and well I'll have a think about the GPs practice.

Anyway got to go, thanks so much without you lot I would probably be still sat at home waiting for him to wake up.

Right, off to the hospital again soon.

Thank you for taking the time to update us.Everyone is rooting for you and your baby.I do hope all will be well.

butterfingerz · 02/01/2013 17:43

Bless you, I've had an ambulance out three times for my DS in the past (asthma, allergy related) and I always went through that 'does this really warrant an ambulance?' thoughts, its normal, you don't want to waste the time of others that really need it. But at that age, its so hard to judge, its more of an art than a science!

I really hope he perks up quickly on his meds, my DS was very poorly with cp, it can be a nasty virus for some, hopefully thats all he's dealing with.

Lots of hugs, they'll take good care of him.

Sirzy · 02/01/2013 17:44

chocolateistheenemy · 02/01/2013 17:53

So they're thinking it's poss a complication from the chickenpox? Did you know he even had it?! Im so pleased he's getting the help he needs and glad your neighbour is so lovely. Now you can focus on him, and his recovery.
Hope you've remembered to eat and drink yourself today.

everybodysang · 02/01/2013 17:53

oh gosh, I'm sorry he's so unwell - but yes, he's in the right place now and they can look after him. Great that your neighbours can help out tonight. Is there anything you need that anyone here could help with? I'm in East Anglia if that's any help?

FellowshipOfFineFellows · 02/01/2013 17:54

[Flowers]
Hope he is all better soon.

That GP surgery is disgraceful, I know it'll be the last thing on your mind but you really need to make a complaint.

Very un-MNetter hugs to you both

OpenMindedSceptic · 02/01/2013 17:56

Poor little mite, hope he feels better soon!

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 02/01/2013 18:00

Please post when you can. I'm sending you lots of love & strength to get through this. I don't want to say much right now, but I am worried for your DS :( x

When the time is right - you need to put in a report regarding your surgery.
