DS still asleep, what to do?

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

Really hope things are going ok OP; give a shout if there is anything you need help with that we could do - even just dropping some milk round or giving you a lift to the hospital or anything. I'm up north. x

Just wanted to add my positive vibes and hand holding. (have been watching)

Sounds like hospital have a good handle on things and the drugs should start working their magic soon. :)

Dd had terrible CP over the summer and was nearly admitted to hospital a few times. You're in my thoughts. :)

Keeping you and your DS in my thoughts. You sound like such a lovely mummy Smile

ClutchingPearls · 06/01/2013 23:26

Hi guys, thanks once again for your suppor, and thoughts, really means so much, think I would be a complete mess without this thread. Thanks also for the offers of help, I'm ok at the moment, I've always struggled accepting help and neighbours looking after DDs is as much as I'm comfortable with at the moment but I will ask if needs be, so thank you so much, I'll shout if I'm stuck.

DS had his scan Saturday night and everything is looking good, he's turned the corner and the swelling is going down, not sure when they will wake him yet but the doctors are definitely smiling more and talk is generally better. He still has 'significant swelling' and isn't out the woods but we are definitely in the right direction. We did have a 'what if' chat prompted by me. But I actually feel better knowing what they would do next and they know my feelings.

One of DD2 doctors came up to see us, she has been quite straight talking (she's known me for years and actually was with us when DS was born) and told me I have until they reduce sedation to fall apart but once they start reducing I need to be strong. Which is what I needed.

They are planning a meeting with me tomorrow to discuss waking him, from what I can gather they will only wake him until groggy first, see how he copes and then wake him properly. I'm not sure if that's normal but I just expected them to wake him straight away.

Just trying to get myself together to cope with that. Hoping I sound a little less in pieces, really trying to pull myself together for him waking up.

Thanks so much for updating us!!! Poor little man, and poor you!! Have a good boo tonight, you'll be great when he needs you to be calm.

Xxxxxx

ginhag · 06/01/2013 23:32

Good to hear from you, thanks for the update :)

Glad things are looking positive...stay strong and we'll be here in whatever way we can xx

brainonastick · 06/01/2013 23:35

Clutching, that's just great news, I'm so happy for you that your ds is getting the right side of better Smile.

Even if you do fall apart when they wake your ds up, don't worry, it's only natural. It's perfectly ok for mums to have a cry (been there, at the hospital bedside, done that - being frowned at by the Nurses for showing some emotion after no sleep and maximum stress). You'll still be there for him, it's fine.

Keeping everything crossed for you both for tomorrow, and for a speedy recovery after that. x

5madthings · 06/01/2013 23:38

That is good news that the swelling is going down. Its normal food them to not wake him up fully, he has been through a lot and rest will be a big part of his recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to update, I will be holding you all in my thoughts and hope the next few days go smoothly and D's continues to recover xxx

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 06/01/2013 23:41
