Swimming and perforated ear drum

Dd (9 months) has had a perforated eardrum over Christmas. She's finished her antibiotics and there's no gunk coming out of her ear anymore. How long do I need to wait until I can take her swimming?
The doc didn't mention it and its only now I've realised I just paid £120 for a term of lessons and I really don't want to miss them if I don't have to - especially as these are the last ones we can do before I go back to work- but I also don't want to damage her ear.

I was told , but this was many years ago that you could not swim with a burst drum.

Advice may have changed, can you ring your doctor and ask?

i got some special things from boots for my dds ear after a perforation altho she is 8. they mould into shape of her ear and form really good seal. the Dr recommended a good month to let ear drum heal and not get bugs from pool in. look in section of ear plugs and see what you can find.

I recommend putty buddies with ear bandz - get them from amazon (or other supplier if you prefer retailer who pays tax ) used them on ds's when they had grommets
Think main thing is not to let them get wet - any danger of that I wouldn't take her, hearing and ears are too precious

6 weeks from ear bursting. I got money back from ds swimming lessons.

If you could see all the germs that are in a swimming pool you'd not even contemplate it.

That was what my GP told me and that was with a six year old. At nine months they don't need swim lessons and certainly don't risk their ears for them. If you explain then most pools will hold the payment for a future date (or offset against a siblings lessons etc) if they won't refund. If not I'd still write it off as ear ache, ear infections and potential temporary hearing loss as so not worth it.

I was told 6 weeks. I managed to get my money back from Water Babies after pleading with them!

DS has a history of perf ears, grommits etc. ENT consultant says no swimming with pus, use ear plugs when not pussy - even in the bath/shower. We have some made by the audiologist but consultant was happy with silicone mouldable ones from Boots- Bio Ears. They are similar to putty buddies.

I've emailed puddleducks and they're happy to postpone lessons starting - worth knowing how willing to help they were in such cases, makes that decision a lot easier!
