Intermittent Stomache Pain in nearly 6-year-old

Hi there

DP had (I think) the noro virus last week so when DS was sick on Sunday I feared the worse.

However, he was only sick once. Although out of sorts for a couple of days, he managed to enjoy Christmas while not eating much but is still suffering from intermittent stomach pain. What could it be?
He's fine in between times, then clutches his stomach so it seems like a crampy pain more than an ache.
Could he be constipated? Not a problem he has ever had before but he hasn't had a proper poo since Sunday (although he hasn't eaten as much as normal)
I hate seeing him in pain but I have no idea what to do to make it better

Any advice would be great.

Some children when fighting off a virus get stomach pains due to the lymph nodes in the stomach. It can be very painful and has on occasion been mis-diagnosed as appendicitis. Unless he is poorly in other ways i.e temp, vomiting etc then I would give paracetamol and see how he is in a few days.

I wondered about appendicitis (having watched too much Casualty I think) but it's not sore to touch.

Have a look at info on stomach migraine - more common in boys than girls, and not often considered. My ds had this and we spent ages trying to find out what to do, in the end a homeopathic treatment sorted it out, but there are probably lots of suggestions here:

I've known of several people (adults and children) to have experienced a few days of stomach cramps after exposure to Noro recently.
Agree about children getting abdo pain due to lymph nodes when fighting infections too.
DS (4) complained on and off (most days for a couple of weeks) after tonsilitis last month, I was starting to get worried about more sinister causes but it all seems to have settled down now.

There seem to be so many nasty viruses around ATM, hope your DS is better soon
