DS has had a sore throat and a mild fever since Sunday. He has been off school but seemed alot bertter yesterday. Last night he woke with ear ache and his temp had gone back up. Had a rough night so made an appointment to see locum doctor. Declared he had tonsillitis but probably viral with one pink ear. As the day has gone on his temp has gone up to 39 and he is very upset. I phoned the doctor again because he seemed worse and his temp has been much higher than it has all week. But I don't think she liked it and said I doubt whether he has altered since she saw him earlier and call her tomorrow if I wanted to. Do I take him to out of hours later for a second opinion? Surely a virus doesn't suddenly get worse like this? He say's his whole face hurts on the side that he has ear ache. Advise required please.

A virus can be up and down like this, my eldest had just this last week, tonsilitus and up and down temp, it lasted about 10 days. Do pain killers bring temp and discomfort down? DS had tonsilitus but no AB's as the doc said it was a viral infection and tbh AB's don't always agree with him; he's fighting fit now! How old is he? Mine is 10.

Hi he is 5. He hasn't really seemed that poorly until today. Eating and drinking ok, so that is what is what is worrying me that it started off as a virus but has now gone secondary with the ear infection. Am I being to much of a worrier. He has now gone to sleep on sofa which is not like him at all. Nurofen helps but can't have anymore until 9 tonight. Temp creeping up but i shall probably give him some calpol soon. What do think?
