Whooping cough vaccination question

Sorry to be so naive (or stupid) but aren't all children vaccinated against this as babies? So why is there such a terrible outbreak now? If you've been vaccinated, can you still get it? And is there another top up vaccination available? Paranoid about DC getting this even though had all their recommended jabs as babies. Thanks

Vaccine has about 90 per cent effectiveness, so 1 in 10 fully vaccinated people can still get it. Currently it is also thought that the effectiveness of the vaccine starts wearing of after 5-10 years, that is why they are now considering a booster for teenagers.
