2.5yo DD with UTI

My 2.5yo DD complained that it hurt when she was weeing on Sunday just gone. This happened two or three times so I collected a sample and tested her urine for a UTI (I keep test sticks at home as I'm a sufferer). The test was positive for leukocytes, protein and blood, so I called out of hours GP, got her seen and she was given a 5 day course of Trimethoprim.

Gave her first dose on Sunday night and by Monday morning she said it no longer hurt. Have continued taking the course and she has one dose left tomorrow.

However, when she went to the loo this evening she was wincing again and said it hurts. I took another sample to retest and it was till showing a slight infection, although not as strong as the other day. I checked her nether regions and she does have quite red slightly sore looking labia (which she gets sometimes), so I've put some barrier cream on. Not sure if this is what was causing soreness when she weed.

Question is, either way, is it normal for test strip to still show positive for UTI after nearl 5 days of treatment? Should I continue for a couple more days or does she need another AB? The GP sent a urine sample to the lab for culture on Sunday and I presumed I would have ben called if the AB given was the wrong one.

Does anyone have any experience in this area? When I get ABs for a UTI it, the test always shows clear after a few days.

Really this is why you shouldn't be testing at home unless you're a medical professional. If you are unhappy with her symptoms, then go back to the GP.

As it is, unless she's got a temp or in pain with every wee...or not weeing...then I would hold fire.

Well, I'm not a medical professional but have enough experience to be able to read a urinte test strip for a UTI.

She seems ok again today after I put cream on her, so perhaps she was just sore yesterday.

I called the GP surgery today to ask for results of lab culture but they're not back yet (five days later?!). She has now finished the prescribed course of ABs, so I will see what happens over the weekend.
