I am worried about DS weight.

He doesn't seem to have put any on in the last 6 months or so but has grown taller.

He is nearly 6

I weighed him the other night and he is 3 stone 7 pounds and to me this seems light - he is just over 4 foot tall.

he eats a very limited diet and refuses to try new things

How can i work round this?

DH says I am mad but as a mum i'm allowed to worry right

If he ate too much I'd worry then too!

any advice appreciated

Thanks

Does he look healthy?

Is he physically active and developing as he should? If so I really wouldn't worry.

Perhaps you should get your school nurse to plot his weight on the graph in his red book.

lljkk · 10/12/2012 11:34

I wouldn't worry about him on the basis of weight/eating habits alone. So what Goldmandra said, really.

I remember my weight plateauing for almost 2 years when I was 7-9yo. Am and was a greedy pig about my food.

morethanyoubargainfor · 10/12/2012 11:38

personally i wouldnt worry but then i have a food phobic 10 year old. He will put the weight on t some point. My ds was 8 and weighed the same as your ds, no professional have ever worried about it, they all comment "oh your underweight" but never do anything about it apart from give the food phobic label (he also has autism). He has always been short for his age, but now he is 134cm.

he is 10 now and weighs 4 stone 8 lbs.

LilyBolero · 10/12/2012 11:39

I wouldn't worry.

My 11 yo weighs 5 stone 0.
My 6 yo weighs 2 stone 10.

They are fine!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 10/12/2012 11:44

So 23.5 Kg for 122 cm at 6 yo, that seems completely normal (but tall) and in proportion, on the heavy side of normal. At 6 yo the normal BMI is between 14.5 and 16, your son's is 15.8.

If he has a restricted diet I would try to help him taste new thing but stop worrying about his weight.

My daughter is 4, will be 5 in a few weeks, but already weighs 3st 3lbs! She has a little belly and chubby face but has the skinniest legs and bum i've ever seen.

She eats normally and healthily, and exercises okay-ish. But I know this is something i have to keep encouraging her to do more of.

forevergreek · 10/12/2012 12:14

Sounds fine. I remember being 5 stone at 11 when starting secondary school as the nurse deemed healthy

ChablisLover · 10/12/2012 20:21

Thanks all for getting back to me.
I worry too much

I was thinking maybe because of the height increases I he hasn't had a chance to put on weight yet And it will catch up.

I have tried to get new foods in but it ends up being a fight. Have tried reward charts everything. This is a child who wants eggs and toast for Christmas dinner!
