Calpol seems to make DD vomit - anyone else had this?

Can't work out whether she pukes on Calpol because she's poorly anyway, or whether it's the Calpol causing it.

It's relevant at the moment as she's got a bit of a temperature, has been sleepy all day, snotty and whingy. She's just coming up to 4yrs.

Have you tried a different type of child's paracetamol?

Ds always takes medinol better, I'm guessing it's not as sickly sweet!

I had the same problem with one of mine (now 18) when he was about 3 or 4. Like you, I could never decide whether Calpol made him puke, or whether he would have puked anyway. I just stopped giving him Calpol, I'm afraid.

Bit fretty tonight as she's alseep upstairs, breathing a bit fast, temp not massively high but she's obviously not right. Hate it when they're ill

Sowornout I avoid paracetamol in any case, try and save it for when temp goes really high. It's just that you get the face from HCPs when they ask whether you've given calpol and you say no...

My DS is often sick after calpol

DS reacted terribly to Calpol - wild, staring eyes and running into walls then a day of awful behaviour. It was frightening. We use Parapaed instead, or Boots own brand.

In our house calpol is used for teething or
for a raised temp, for high temperatures we give ibuprofen. Much much more effective

Yes ds3 vomits with calpol. I use ibuprofen without problem.

Yes both of mine did this but my theory was it was because its pretty thick and gloopy and when they got it thy usually had a cough.

Dd1 vomits with ibroprofin. I've tried various different brands and disguising it in drinks. Always sick withing 5 minutes.

My dgs reacts to Calpol, becomes hyper has halluciations, we now give him one that is colour and sugar free. The only problem we have now is getting him to take it, have to put it in juice and even then sometimes he seems to know.

have you considered suppositories? a god-send with stomach bugs. you can get them over the counter in pharmacies.

Well we are now in the children's hospital, DD was admitted this morning with wheezing.

She's had hospital brand paracetamol (orange flavour) with no puking. But she is feeling pretty rough Hope to be home in the morning.

I've found the sugar free calpol makes DD sick. As does baby nurofen. It's the maltitol base according to my doctor. The sugared calpol and brufen (available on prescription) are fine as they have a sucrose base. Apparently lots of babies are intolerant to maltose which can make them sick.
