DD 7 swelling in chest/breast area

DD is 7 and for the past few months she has had swollen 'breasts'. She's very skinny and the swelling is fairly firm so it's not just chubbiness. At first I thought it might be swollen glands due to illness, it's happened before and gone away again on its own and that was what I put it down to. This time the swelling seems to be staying. She said tonight that they're bothering her, I'm going to try and get her an appointment with the GP tomorrow to make sure it's nothing to worry about, but does anyone have any idea of what it could be? I'm assuming she's too young for it to be actual breast development; she's only just 7.

It is probably breast buds... they do appear well before any developing breast tissue, so don't worry about puberty being imminent - good idea to have the doc check them out though - more for your DD benefit - if WE tell them something is ok, they listen a little - if the doc says it is OK they listen a lot......

Ah I see. I think I was expecting flat chest until puberty, since that's what I had. Thanks for the reassurance.
