How much calpol?

DD is 6.5 mo but she's quite a littly - she's 10th centile for weight. So, although the packet says 5ml, should I stick to 2.5ml until she's a bit bigger? She's teething at the moment so needs some help!

Thanks Smile

Stick to the dose on the box.
They have pretty high tolerances. Dd was recommended to have it at 6wks by consultant at hosp. Way before the box says its ok.
She was also on 7.5ml at 15mo (same dose as 3yo ds) when she had v bad chickenpox. this again was on advice of hospital. I think you have to be going some to give them too much iyswim.

Hope she Feels better soon. :)

Thank you, that's v helpful.

I will give her some now, poor little thing, I want to give her enough to sort out the pain but not too much.

Thanks from us both

How much does she weigh? I think I would be inclined to use the dose for 3-6 months if she is really wee.

Do you have some teething gel? I always found that more effective than Calpol for tooth/gum pain.

To put it into context for you, my DD managed to drink a full bottle minus one dose (older DS opened it and gave it to her, thought he was being helpful) took her to hospital to be told she would be fine as long as she didn't have any for a few days

So being 2.5ml out on a couple of doses won't do her any harm at all

Whenitis - it is actually incredibly easy to overdose on paracetamol, and I would always advise caution.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 06/12/2012 17:12

Ali - I'm sure you're right. I only advised sticking to dose on box and shared my experience of dosing dd. I was probably a bit unclear before - I just meant that you'd have to give larger than normal doses over an extended period to cause damage, or to give one massive dose (whole bottle).

Has the calpol kicked in yet OP?

Hello,

She is 7kg.

I've tried teething gels but they just don't seem to work for longer than a few mins!

I gave her 5mls last night and that really helped. She seems better this morning thankfully.

Thanks for your posts, I am so wary of giving her too much but I do want to get rid of the pain for her.

Teething is brutal!

I used to give 1/2 dose to my tiny DD (she was 0.4th centile) but alternate with ibuprofen too.

Ginshizz · 07/12/2012 18:20

Thanks ceeveebee, I hadn't thought of alternating it x
