DS (10) Stomach bug or not?

DS2 (10) has been on and off the loo with an upset tummy since 6am and hasn't gone to school. No sickness or any other symptoms.

When DH rang the school they said there is a bug going round and they are advising parents to keep the children off for 48 hours and don't expect DS back til Monday.

What if it isn't the bug though? If he's okay for the rest of the day and in the morning can he go in? Don't want to argue with them but don't want him to miss school if possible.

He hasn't been to the loo for an hour now but he says he feels really cold despite being dressed and sitting under his duvet.

oh sparkling, hi. i started a similar thread. i 'think' there are bugs going round that make them feel so ill and sick but no sickness. dd10 has felt sick for 5 days. if you look at my thread it's just knocked her for six. xx i wouldn't send him in to be fair, it will spread it and he might pick up worse.

Thanks Pirate. You know the worst bit? He has been working on a project for 4 weeks and tomorrow he gets to take it in and Year 6 are holding a big exhibition of all their models. He had to dress as a Victorian too. I have the outfit all ready.

I suppose I could just pop his model into school....

We have just had sickness/diahhrea bug in our house. Anyway within 24hr of last puke/loose motions ds4 was fine, more than well enough for school but he wasnt allowed back for 48hrs as this is nhs and lea guidlines apparently.

Our school.used to say 24hrs but now its 48hrs. Irritating when yoi have a child that puked once after dinner and then needs the next two days off school!

Ds2 just had it but has had three days off, started sunday and he really wasnt well enough to go bacl.until today as even tho he had had 48hrs of no puke etc it really floored him, think cos he is a skinny thing and has no reserves?

Anyway yes the 48hr thinh is a pita but it is the official guidlines re diahrea and vomiting.

Btw the feeling cold sounds like ds2 and myself. It was awful and i got achey,that horrid bone acheyness.

Hope he is better asap and no-one else catches it.

Four out of my five had it and dp and myself also got it, it has bern an awful week and a half!

I know it sounds daft but at least if he was vomiting I would know it's the bug. If he stays ok for the rest of the day but has to miss all day at school tomorrow they had better not be harassing me about attendance.

Ever since the bug thing was mentioned I have felt sick.

sparkling dp and dd only had diahrea no vomitting. Ds1, ds2 and myself had both. Ds3 hasnt had it yet....

And yes i felt sick for days but assumed it was because i was dealing with poorly people and then monday morning it hit me, i ended up calling dp at work to get him to come home as i couldnt look afyer ds2 who was ill like me and toddler dd. I just lay on the bathroom floor.

It seems to have affected ds2 and myself the worst.

The school shouldnt harrass you, you are following the official guidlines of 48hrs for vomitting and/or diahhrea.

That's true 5 but he had 4 days off with cold and cough type thing not long ago.

He is now crying about the project.

Well the ooh dr i had to call on sunday for ds2 told me that in families those that get it first seem to be getying the mild version and those that get it last get it worse?! He explained some reason why (but i was trying to sort out puking child whilst talking to her) anyway it has beem true in our case.

Oh poor thinh :( maybe ask if they will let his group present theirs on monday? And its just bad luck he has already had time off, the school cant compkain, its winter kids get ill.

Ds2 and ds4 have both had quite a few sick days this term and we had a week (authorised) for a holiday in sept, so their attendence wiil be a bit pants, but what can you do?

Yes get it out the way! Or dont get it at all would be best!

Option B please! Weirdly his appetite is fine.

dd's appetite is fine. but have made a pledge today to give her really bland stuff. no cookies, or cereal with milk. anything to try and help. x

Dd was fine eating and so was dp. Ds 2 and i couldnt eat at all. Ds2 couldnt even keep down sips of water.

Fingers crossed no one else gets it xc

No more trips to the loo yet. I am confused.

Well he hasn't had any more episodes on the loo since twenty past eight this morning. He has eaten normally and looks ok.

Do I really have to keep him off tomorrow?

sparkling that sounds like dd when she had it. Technically yes you should keep him off....

He says he's going to football training tonight.
