Toothpaste for 'big' teeth that's not too minty?

DD1 been told by dentist that now she has some big teeth she needs to use adult toothpaste. We tried one 'mild' toothpaste but she hated it, so we got Aquafresh Big Teeth in the hope that as it's designed for children it would be less strong but she hates that too. We're using the teeniest amount but she's in tears every teeth cleaning time which is not good. Anyone got any suggestions? I can't bear the 'it's toooooo miiiinty' wailing any more.

the kids sensodyne pronamel doesnt seem to be too minty and ds (6) uses it fine. DD(9) will use any minty one now and uses an adult toothpaste. What toothpaste was she using before as it may already have had a decent amount of fluoride in it anyway? Mine both use a toothpaste with 1400/1450ppm.

Thank you both will look at those. She was using Aquafresh little teeth. Haven't checked fluoride levels but it does say it's only up to 6 years.

the little teeth has 1400ppm fluoride and so does the big teeth toothpaste so I shouldnt think it would matter which one you used. Dont know what the difference would be except for the extra stripe!

We use the tesco kid's strawberry flavoured one. It has the same amount of fluoride as the adult ones.

The character ones from home bargains (we've had hello kitty and my little pony) also have that amount of fluoride.

I think they taste awful but dd likes them.

I've got the same trouble Bertha, DD1 whines that most 6+ toothpastes are "tooooo miiiintyyyyyyy" as well. Glad you posted.

Can you get this Elmex anywhere then? I've not noticed kids sensodyne but I may try it next.

I've seen a site mentioned on here before with different flavoured adult toothpastes on too :)

I find Arm & Hammer less minty, it's a bit gritty, but I like that - feels cleaner!

mint hating ds1 has declared the lidl herby fresh one "nice". Dd on the other hand who used to use mint until ds1 cried so much she decided she din't like it either has decided it is stingy and horrible

I just googled the Elmex - £6.50 for 100ml

I can see me spending hours in the toothpaste isles in various shops reading fluoride contents like some mad woman. Then I'm going to end up buying about twenty different varieties until I find one she'll actually use aren't I?

Glad I'm not the only one though.

We use this strawberry toothpaste for our minty flavour hating 5yo. Boots and Sainsburys sell it

DD1 was the same. Now that she's 6 I thought she should be using the big teeth toothpaste but is was such a ruddy faff getting her to use it as it was too minty. Having checked, the 4-6 toothpaste she was using has as much fluoride in it as the big teeth one and only marginally less than the adult one we use (1400ppm as opposed to 1450ppm). It isn't worth the stress

DD (7) found switching to "Big teeth" traumatic, but we pressed on and she has got used to it.

My two were v. fussy but tolerated the Pronamel kids toothpaste and now we are on to the plain Colgate one.

If it makes you feel any better, both my DCs used strawberry kiddy type toothpaste until they were at least 10 for the same reason most people have given. They both have perfect teeth (DD is 25). IMO it's as much about the brushing technique as what toothpaste they use.

The only one ds will tolerate us the Sensodyne Pronsmel one for children. He had tooth decay so really needed to start using a better toothpaste

He used the little teeth but point blank refuses big teeth or any of the other brands.

I have the same issue with DS2 who's 8. He uses one called Punch and Judy which they sell in a local chemist. It's about £1.60 for a tube.

I'm going back to kids toothpaste for my dd (6) after she threw up every where gagging on the "big teeth" toothpaste. The fluoride ppm is so similar that I have absolutely no idea (other than marketing) why they have different ages on them anyway!

Sensodyn pronamel, yy. It's not to minty and its very creamy rather than foamy. Dentist recommended it for my dd due to strengthening their teeth.

Ok for research purposes I bought a selection from pound land. Aqua fresh mild was declared too minty as was Colgate blue gel (I thought the blue may look sufficiently different to take her mind off mintyness but no). Colgate Smiles was rejected as it was 'too fruity', it did taste vile. She did however like the Hello Kitty strawberry one, no surprise there really . Will keep a look out for the pronamel one that several of you have mentioned though. All trial pastes were 1450 fluoride content by the way. Happy brushing!

I feel your pain, DS won't go anywhere near minty toothpaste. He uses Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry.

ds(8) also used Sensodyne pronamel after Aquafresh little teeth as it wasnt too minty before progressing to super minty colgate.

My kids don't like Minty toothpaste but like Kingfisher Fennel flavour, you can get a flouride free or a flouride one, now sure how much is in it though

Mine like co op kids toothpaste.
Have no idea of fluoride content, but compared to colgate and aqua fresh, it isn't minty at all apparently.
And cheap.
