Recovery after hernia repair

My three year old girl is having a left inguinal hernia repair in december. How long is she likely to need off nursery? Is she likely to be up to a friend's birthday party six days post op? What about long awaited trip to the theatre with grandparents a week and a bit post op? Glad i am on mat leave so not having to stress about taking time off but wondering if should be organising help with my baby (will be 5 months old by then)so j can look after the patient better and also worrying about spending a week or more stuck inside with 2 screaming kids just before christmas as DD1 is pretty high maintenance and we usually go out and about absolutely loads when she is not at nursery

Well, I can't answer specifically about the kids operation, but I had an umbilical hernia repair when I was 24yo and back to normal after 3 weeks. I felt quite battered for about a week so I wouldn't organise anything other than rest and quiet activities for the first week, then see how she goes.

I'm sure your daughter's HCPs will be able to advise you.

Best of luck to you and your DD.

My daughter had an umbilical hernia repair aged 4. She hobbled around for the first 24 hours but then I couldn't stop her leaping about. I seem to remember we were told to avoid soft play and being too active for 2 or 3 weeks so we did but she seemed fine well before then. Hope all goes well for your dd.
