Could I have hurt him?

Just ventured out with the pram for the first time and I'm having a freak out. We went over s bumpy curb much harder than I meant to with a definite thunk. Could I have hurt LO head/brain? Sorry first time mum paranoia getting the better of me!

Did he thwack his head against the pram? Did he cry for a long time? Is he still crying?

If not, then I'm sure he's absolutely fine.

Just wait until he falls off the bed / sofa / you walk into a doorframe while carrying him / you slip over while holding his hand and he crashes into a concrete pillar none of these have happened to me honest guv

My gut instinct is he wil be just fine.

As Wigeon says just wait until he stands up on the arm of your sofa and then casually swan dives off the end of it head first on to a tile floor.

Thanks all for the quick responses! He didn't cry just squeaked a bit. He's been grisly since but I think he's just having one of those days! He was very prem and I'm being overly neurotic about everything!

He will be fine . To make you feel better I shouted at dp for taking 3 week old ds1 to a car boot in a very rutted field which would have meant him being juddered around for an hour whilst dp looked round (we had a very cheap pushchair with no suspension and I was worried about white knuckle syndrome). A few years later - after getting very defensive at the time, DP admitted he too had been worried about how much ds1 was juddering about in the buggy, but that ds1 actually stopped crying and feel asleep, as soon as DP stopped the buggy he woke up and howled so DP (wanting to give me a break) carried on.

If it makes you feel better, I took DD1, DD2 and DD3 (then 3 weeks old) out in a triple buggy, but one where the third seat is on top, so a double buggy with an extra seat on top.

It was quite heavy, but seemed fine. I went down a curb and the entire buggy flipped over. DD3, then 3 weeks, was upside down, with her face almost touching the road. DD1 and DD2 had grazed knees. All were ok.

Honestly, a bump on a curb is going to do him no harm whatsoever!

In a word, no. We used to grow up in caves and are made of much stronger stuff than people like to give us credit for. We live in a world of Molly-coddled children and, whilst you should be mindful of avoiding accidents, minor bumps and scrapes do no harm and are a simple fact of life.

When DS1 was born we lived on a cobbled street and I was terrified that pushing the pram over the cobbles would give him shaken-baby syndrome. I used to go at snail's pace.

When DS2 was born, 21 months later, i whizzed the pram over the cobbles at top speed and he'd fall asleep before we'd got to the end of the street.
