Is this Chicken Pox or something else?

My DC has some red large angry looking spots around groin area, bottom, and a few on back. Thes came up on Tues, I rang GP for advice as was unsure what it was. GP said it was Chicken Pox from my description of it and the number of spots there were (I was unsure if it was insect bites or not). DC later said a couple of the spots were on her back on Mon, but has just thought it was an insect bite.

However I'm not 100% convinced as none of the spots have blistered over - I don't know how many days this would take but MIL insisting it would be within 24hrs.

DC did get more spots on the Tues and Wed, but no new ones today. Also today DC has said they've not itched in the day, but was starting to be itchy again this eve.

Also some of the spots seem to have calmed down and seem to be fading.

DC was sick last night and has had an upset tummy today.

Is it more likely DC has had some sort of virus, rather than Chicken Pox?

I don't know whether I should be going back to GP as don't know if school will let DC go back next week if still has these spots and they've not blistered over etc.

Ring the GP, ask to speak to the duty doctor, they will ring you back,and let them make a judgement call.

if it is infectious they probably won't want the child in there either.

Hmmmm I do the first ones would have crusted over by now. Could be a skin infection - DD2 has had those and nursery tried to send her home a couple of time insisting she had the pox when I knew it was 'only' the skin infection! If it is a skin infection, probably needs treating too so I would go to the GP if it persists.

Rashes really need to be seen to be assessed and if your child has a rash that you can't account for then you should presume it is infectious until proven otherwise. If you are really unsure if this is chicken pox (and generally it's obvious in all but a few cases) you should ask to see one of the doctors. In the meantime try asking a friend whose children have had the pox and see what they think.
