17mo with bronchiolitis

My dd has bronchiolitis. We were at the hospital on Thursday as her oxygen levels were low and she had a temp over 40 degrees, v chesty cough and v congested, and wheezing. She has been prescribed steroids, antibiotics, paracetamol suppositories (due to spitting out calpol/nurofen) and inhaler. She has been a whole lot better since the meds started working but is still unwell but temp normal now. Still not eating so I have brought daytime milk back as well as her bedtime and morning milk and lots of water. She also has the runs - antbiotics normally upset her tummy..

She keeps wanting to go outside. Would a short walk wrapped up well in the buggy make her worse? Fresh air a good thing? Any advice? For those who have experienced lttle ones with bronchiolitis this how do the symptoms normally last?

My dd had this twice as a baby. We were in for about five days each time.

In discharge I did ask if she would be ok to be outside as I had to take/ pick up dd1 from pre school and the nurse said as long as she was wrapped up well she would be ok.

Forgive me for asking but y is she on anti biotics? Bronchiolitus is viral when dd 2 was in with it both times I was told there was nothing they could give her to help her get better they could just support her while she fought it off. She was given oxygen and was on a drip as they wouldn't allow her to have her milk ( only a few mls)

They also put in a feeding tube but that was to suck out the air so her tummy didn't get bloated. But she was much much younger than your dd.

I would check with nurse but I should think that if she's fully wrapped up a little walk might perk her up a bit and help increase appetite.

It was a good two weeks maybe more til my dd was back to normal. Hope she gets better soon op

As long as she is nice and warm then take her out the fresh air will do her good. Even if its just 10 minutes in the pram.

Forgive me for asking but y is she on anti biotics? they are sometimes given to stop secondary infections, the first time DS had bronchi he was very ill (in HDU) and he was put on IV antibiotics as they were worried it would develop into pneumonia.

Clearly different places take different approaches.

Definately agree that a few mins outside in the fresh air will do u both good. Anything that saves your sanity if only briefly will also aid recovery :)

Really hope she gets better soon bronchiolitus is just awful :( and you both must be exhausted :(
