achy cheeks following tonsillectomy

My three year old dd has had her tonsils out and was of course in a lot of discomfort with her sore throat afterwards. On day 7 post-op she stopped complaining about her throat, but started to cry about her cheeks hurting. This has been going on for the past four days and seems to flare up particularly often when she eats. I have taken her to the GP and he couldn't find anything wrong and thinks she is still a bit sore from when her mouth was prised open throughout the op. This makes sense to us, but is rather stressful as it keeps her from eating, which she needs to in order to keep her throat clean to avoid infection :-(
Has anyone else's dc had these problems after a tonsillectomy, and how long did it go on for?
