Large mole on DD's leg suddenly got very hairy

DD is just 3 - she was born with a large mole on her ankle , it was the size of a 50p but is bigger than that now.
In the last couple of months dark hairs have grown on it - they actually look like pubic hairs.
Is there a reason the hairs have only just appeared?
Also fast forward a few years to when she starts school & it could become a reason for teasing - is there a child friendly way to remove the hair?

Any ideas?

No great ideas, sorry. I had all my moles checked by a dermatologist and asked if it was ok to pluck hears from a mole and she said that was ok, but that would hurt a little kid. If it has got bigger since she was born and she is only 3, might it not be miner in the long run to look at getting the mole removed.

(speaking as someone with a few big moles on my face, toyed with getting them removed for years, but thought no, they are a part of me, but now they have got bigger I really regret it, still thinking about getting it done, but any scar will now be bigger than it would have been if I had got them removed a few years ago).

Take her to the GP
Always get moles checked out if you are not sure.
GPs often dont know themselves,and will refer people on to a specialist

fapl they won't usually remove moles on the face for cosmetic reasons, because it can leave big scars.

My dd has quite a big one on her face, as my dm did. But dm's suddenly grew to about 1" diameter and sticking up about 1/2" when she was an adult and she had a huge fight to get it removed. So I'd have liked dd's removed before it potentially does that, but they wouldn't.

my cousin was born with a large mole on his arm which grew with him and became very hairy - he had it lasered (or something) at thehospital. I would go to gp and try and get dermatologist referral - if your dd was born with it, it likely to continue to grow with her.

DD had a mole removed from her face a couple of months ago. It was in the side of her nose, but she only has a tiny scar which has already faded a lot, and you can't see it at all unless you look very closely. She will also be able to cover it up with make up outside of school (she's 15). We had to pay for it privately though - and it cost about £1000, but as she was very self conscious about it, I'm pleased we did it.

Yes, I know moles are not removed on the NHS for cosmetic reasons. Been planning for private removal of them. I am from Australia originally, mole removal is fairly standard there due to high incidence of skin cancer (1 in 3 adults of a certain age, my dad included, have had skin cancer. Younger people are more educated about it so rates are going down).

devinsmummy, in no way am I implying your daughters mole is cancerous, but as others have said try to get a dermatologist referral (insist on it). GPs don't seem to know as much as they should about moles here, and there are different types of methods of removing them, some ways more suitable than others for the type and location of the mole.
