DD 3 with persistent infected boils- anyone else experienced this?

Since feb DD aged 3 has had about 4 sudden infected boils requiring antibiotic treatment.

After second one GP said she may be colonised with a particular bug (staph maybe?) and might need antibiotic wash etc to clear it. But then next time other GP did not do this.

Walk in centre have now said she should have a blood test to see if there is an underlying cause. She also has an occasional mildly persistant cough (that i dont think anyone except a mother would notice) and one massive tonsil.

I have put it all together and am panicking that its something terrible. Pls reassure me. We have GP app in a week to request blood test.

I think - and had better state that I am in no way a medic - that the protocol for recurrent boils is to check there's no other issues. It's like any infection - if something isn't being cleared properly, or recurs, then it's good practice to make sure that the immune system is not compromised by anything. So there might not be any other issues, but they are rightly going to double check.

You mention staph, I think that that is the most common boil-causing bacteria. It's everywhere, remember that we're all covered in bacteria all the time, but sometimes they get out of balance. So don't panic at the mention of staph!

thanks hazel- am just wondering what underlying issues might be- given that she is generally well, eats etc and is a good height and weight. I am really anxious and thinking cancer. I am not normally crazy and hypochondriac.

My neighbours kids had this, one of them ended up in hospital on I v antibiotics. They were all colonised with staph and a hibiscrub wash routine for 2 weeks stopped any further outbreaks. Hth

Occasionally diabetes can predispose to skin infections but in a child this young it would be type 1 diabetes and I am sure she would be extremely unwell if this were the case. Easily ruled out at the gp surgery.
