Help! Chance of pox twice

regnamechange · 28/09/2012 20:43

My son had chicken pox as a baby but only a few spots, my daughters had it really bad bless them.

We go away to Disney in 8 days, today I met with my best friend and it turns out her dd has come down with pox for the second time this eve.

Que me having a major panic, what's the odds that my son can get it again.

We have not had a holiday in years and Eurodisney is still a big secret from children but very much looking Foward to it.
I will have a break down if we can't go.

Hoping to god that he has a strong immune system!!

My dd caught chicken pox twice, a few as a toddler (caught from her cousin) and then a proper dose when she was in school.

It was about 2 years ago, dd1-bad, ds-mild then dd2 very bad.

Oh please don't let him get ill Sad

even if he has caught it he wont come out in spots until after you have already gone as the incubation period is 10-21 days. I would go but take medication in case you require it while you are away. Chances are he wont get it again anyway

MousyMouse · 28/09/2012 22:01

very very small chance that they get it again. better be prepared though, they don't sell calpol in the supermarkets in france...

naturalbaby · 28/09/2012 22:03

a friend of mine's toddler has just caught it for the 2nd time.

regnamechange · 29/09/2012 06:59

Thanks I will get meds to take in case. He's never ill, so I'm hoping his immune system is strong enough to miss it

Apparently only 13% get it again!

SpottyTeacakes · 29/09/2012 07:07

I've had it twice. I would still go like others have said and take cream and calpol with you!

regnamechange · 29/09/2012 07:13

Oh god Sad

and don't forget travel insurance.
but you should have that in any case...

regnamechange · 29/09/2012 10:04

Sorting that out tonight

Northernlurker · 29/09/2012 10:16

How long are you going for? He isn't going to come out with it before you go even if he is incubating it.

Meglet · 29/09/2012 10:19

Mine both managed to get it mildy as babies (approx 9/10 months). Hanful of spots and just a day or two of grizzling.

Then it came back with a vengence when they were 4.4 and 2.5. That was a fun month Sad.

regnamechange · 29/09/2012 10:24

When the 3 had it was hell!

NorthernLurker we go on the 7th for 3nights 4 days.

He's currently bouncing off the walls at my MIL's! He is never ill, in fact none of them are ever ill so this would be Sod's law in all its glory.

Hoping if he gets it its when we are home.

My friends DC has had it before also and have only got about 8 spots so wondering if its CP for sure.

OP posts:
peanutMD · 29/09/2012 10:36

My DS and I have low immunity for CP so I've had it 4x and DS 2x so far.

Each time it lessens in severity but not sure if this us entirely normal tbh.

regnamechange · 29/09/2012 12:06

False alarm! She took DC to doc and its a reaction he's pretty sure it's def not cpGrinGrin

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 29/09/2012 12:46

Great news Grin enjoy your holiday!

MousyMouse · 29/09/2012 17:50

enjoy! (but still take out insurance and take calpol just in case)

regnamechange · 29/09/2012 22:49

Thanks. Have just sorted insurance with bank and calpol on the list Grin

Good news - though the incubation period for cp is usually 14 days, give or take, so you'd probably have got to disneyland and back before they came out in spots anyway!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 02/10/2012 17:38

I have had CP 3x. Not fun.
