Parents of nut allergy sufferers - advice needed please

DD 1 (3.5) is allergic to cashews and pistachios and carries an anapen. We were in a cafe at teatime when she began complaining of stomach cramps, she went v pale and had a dry cough. I gave her a dose of antihistamine, rather than use her anapen, as she hadn't eaten any nuts.

Does this sound like its related to the allergy? I'm really not sure, and am wondering if we need to call the out of hours GP. We're home now and she's perked up a bit - still not 100%. I'm keeping a close eye on her, but I'm concerned.

Hard to tell. It doesn't sound like you bother the out of hours GP at the moment, but I would keep an eye on her for 2 hours after the incident. You can give a 2nd dose of piriton of necessary.

what medical advice have you had?
what did your child eat?
what other allergies does your child have?

do they have asthma?

how familier are you with the severe symptoms of anaphylaxis?

being pale can be a sign of lowering blood pressure and dry cough can be a sign throat is tightening.

but on the other hand can be signs of a cold brewing, so we need further details.

have you tried visiting the allergy section of this site?

Hi eragon. I didn't realise there was a separate allergy section - that's good to know.

DD does not have asthma and has no other allergies. She hadn't eaten anything new today, in fact we didn't even get as far as ordering in the cafe before we had to leave.

Unfortunately we are familiar with the most severe symptoms of anaphylaxis as she's been blue lighted to hospital in the past. This time I really wasn't sure though. Anyway she perked up massively before bed and was bouncing round the living room. I've checked on her a few times since she went sleep and all seems well.
