1 year old refusing medicine

DD2 has (another) ear infection. On the occasions we've had to give calpol/nurofen before it's been really easy. She's takes it from a syringe, and is almost excited to see it coming.

Same goes for the first dose of the antibiotic. And then she refuses anything - calpol, nurofen, antibiotic, even water. I have a dreadful time getting her to take anything. This goes on for about 5 days before it starts to improve. (or at least that's what happened last time)

Could she be reacting to the antibiotic in some way? If its just that she doesn't like the taste why does she still refuse the calpol once she gets a little of it? Incidentally they are different antibiotics (penicillin based last time, not penicillin this time)

Any ideas? Or hints on how to get her to take it - as holding her down and squirting medicine into her mouth just gets us both upset & leaves medicine everywhere :(

Regarding pain-relief I can't recommend paracetamol in the form of suppositories highly enough - they work really fast and are far less distressing to everyone to use. They do feel like an invasion of privacy, but the benefits are amazing.

The antibiotics prob are upsetting her tummy a bit, and being in pain upsets your tummy anyway. Could you put her antibiotic in her bottle? Milk is a great settler

I have to say I hate the idea of suppositories but they might just be the way to go!

She's a bottle refuser and still breastfed. I tried putting the antibiotic un food last tune, but that just meant that after the first spoon she refused her dubbed. Minx. Confused

My daughter refused medicine from 1 until she was 4. We used to put it in yoghurts and fruit pots and she would eat them all. From about 3 and a half onwatds she knew what we were doing, but prefered to do it that way. She now (thankfully) takes it from a spoon.
