8mo with terrible nappy rash

OK so it might not be terrible by everyone's standards but it's a raw looking patch just below his testicles, about the size of a 50p piece with raised, angry looking lumps.

He has NEVER had nappy rash before, I change his nappy regularly and use bepanthen every single time, and always have. He is also having very loose stools unless I feed him banana which seems to firm them up somewhat.

Anyone got any miracle cures for nappy rash, or is anyone aware if it can have anything to do with teething? I think there may be a small lump on his lower gum but he won't let me have a proper look. He has no teeth as yet.

Sounds like teething poo to me, enjoy! Grin

In all seriousness yellow Metanium cream is your friend. It sorts it right out.

Also give his bum some air after you change him so it's completely dry before you put the cream and nappy back on.

It'll pass as soon as the teeth come through.

Thanks for the tips, I shall give the cream a go and keep my fingers crossed that the tooth pops through quickly. He's got a stinking cold as well so he's feeling exceptionally sorry for himself, poor little thing.

Sounds exactly the same as mine. Every teething episode is accompanied by toxic poos and snot!

The cream really does work though, it's amazing. It's not an everyday barrier cream, it purely for when they have a rash so I think it works differently iyswim.

It calms it down within a few hours tbh.

Nappy-off time is the best thing obviously but when there's poomamii risks involved it's not for me!

I just tend to pat him dry with a towel and give it a few minutes air. Then cream and nappy.

Hope the pesky teeth pop through soon Smile

Ah bless him, we use sudocrem and dry with a face cloth before applying. Make sure to slather a good amount on. We also found that simple baby wipes help keep the nappy rash at bay. Some foods also make it worse when they start solids, meat was a problem for about a month.

I agree with the metanium recommendations, careful though I think it stains. Also what I do when my DD has bad nappy rash is stop using baby wipes and just use cotton wool and plain water until its clear. Also as others have mentioned, plenty of nappy free time on a towel. This method never fails for me. I used to feel really like a crap mother when my dd got nappy rash but I soon realised it just can't always be avoided.
Sorry for the essay. :)

We were recommended to put some bicarbonate of soda in our son's bath when he's had bad nappy rash as well as all the other tips other posters have mentioned. It does seem to help.
