Sore throat and bite-like bumps?

I'm feeling a bit confused about some symptoms my DS (5) is having and don't know whether I should be concerned. I took him to the GP on Friday as he was complaining of a sore neck and had a slight temp (37.4). She said his tonsils look swollen and red but wasn't sure it was bacterial. She gave me a prescription for anti-bs but said hold off on giving them to him which i have done. She said I should give them if his temp goes up or if he seems much sicker.

Today he still has the temp although it hasn't gone higher. He says his throat doesn't hurt, but I looked in his mouth and his tonsils look red and I think there are white spots on them. Then just before bed he was showing me "bites" on his legs and arms - he has about 6-7. They look like mosquito bites and he says they are sore but not itchy. We are in London and no one else in the house has mosquito bites.

So - I suppose I have two questions - first is should I give him the anti-bs, and second is does anyone have a theory on the bites? Could they be related? Could it be chickenpox? He hasn't had chickenpox, but I thought that always started on the torso?

Thanks!
