DS (3.8) has a swollen lymph gland on the back of his head/neck on the left side below his ear. This was confirmed by a GP the other day. On inspection we found some orangey/yellow spots on his scalp and the skin around these spots looked very dry. The GP said it was some sort of infection most likely caused by a virus and prescribed some anti-biotics (Erythromicin) and referred him for a blood test to rule out anything nasty. We have to wait for the blood test for another week, there is a long waiting list apparently. In the meantime I'm wondering what on earth could be causing this. Along with wondering why anti-biotics have been prescribed when the GP usually says they don't work for a virus.
A few months ago he was diagnosed with Molluscum Contagiosum but we were told not to worry, it causes his no pain and will clear up on it's own within 12-18 months. This is mainly on his knees but has had the odd one elsewhere such as the inside of his elbow and on his tummy.
He also has a reoccuring patch of exczema on the inside of his elbow. He's had 1% hydrocortisone for this previously. It never looks too bad and the cream usually clears it up within a couple of days until the next thing. But I have noticed today that it has flared up more than usual.
I'm trying to establish whether these 3 things could all be connected? The GP didn't mention anything about this possibility and made no reference to his Molluscum Contagiosum or exzema when we visited about the lymph gland (although it was a different GP to our usual one). Has anyone else experienced this or have reason to think this may be connected? I'm only piecing it together via Dr Google and I'm hoping I may be onto something? It would be nice to know what's causing this swollen lymph gland as I'm a bit worried about it and have a long time to wait until the blood test.
