Circumcision due to tight foreskin?

Just wondered if anyone has any advice. DS (6) has always had a tight foreskin that won't retract at all. He's occasionally had pain when weeing but has not had a problem with infections (only ever had one infection).

GP referred him to consultant at local hospital, who took one look and arranged circumcision. I did a bit of googling and decided to try steroid cream first, the GP had not heard of this but was supportive and prescribed the cream. After 3 weeks DS's foreskin was fully retractable! BUT, we then stopped applying the cream (it thins the skin, we were told not to apply it for longer than necessary) and 3 weeks later, it's back how it was :-(

We have another appointment with the consultant in a week, I need to decide whether to accept the surgery or keep trying with the cream. Anyone any advice or experience please?

DH had to have this done at the age of 19, as it was a major problem for him. DS1 was circumcised aged 8, for the same problem as DH.

DH was adamant he didn't want DS1 to go through this as a teenager. And he spent his childhood doing the bath-time exercises to no avail.

DS was circumcised at 6. He had had recurring infections and would cry when weeing. Also would wet himself as he tried to delay weeing as long as possible. He recovered from the op quickly and has had no problems so far (he is now 16). It helped that he was at a school with are large proportion of Jewish and Muslim boys and so regarded the circumcised look as quite normal also DH is circumcised.

My DH is Canadian and was circumised at birth. He is happy he was done, and finds no problems with it. He prefers (without any experience of having one so not really a rational preference) it and is keen to have our sons done. I know from talking to my sister that my BIL is also done, but he is British and it was done for medical reasons. He is also quite happy I believe. I'm not sure what age it was done at though. It looks like one of my twin sons has a tight foreskin and he may have to deal with problems inthe future, but at the moment we are just leaving it to see how things develop. The other twin son is fine, so we will leave him be, though I do worry if his twin and his dad are "done" then he will worry he is different. I'm not sure of the point of this post (I'll probably get a flaming for even considering getting DT1 circumsised even for medical reasons) but I just wanted to reassure you that if it is done then your son will be fine.
