hey,

just recieved a letter from the health visitor, asking if she can come round on Wednesday "to advise on my baby's blood test results". The blood test was the heel prick that is done at birth. I am really worried that there must be a problem for her to make this appointment. Can't get hold of her as it is the weekend and i only have an office number for her and its also bank holiday so that will be another day of worry! Has anyone else experienced this please?

thanks,

james

I had results had to be redone and can't remember exact phraseology as was seeing hv on weekly basis due to prem dts. All it was was because they were prem they had to have it done twice and the blasted hospital had done it 1,day too early so the poor dts had to have it done a 3rd time. Hope yours is similar

i had this and it was also because they needed to be re-done as there wasnt enough blood or something. poor ds4 had to have his done four times! was all fine in the end tho :)

The heel prick test for both my babies showed a suspected allergy to a certain protein. My sons are now 3 and 10 months and although are still being monitored, they don't appear to have any such allergy. So even if the test has shown something it doesn't have to be something terribly scary. Try not to worry too much and as the others said, it's most likely that they need to do it again as there was a problem with the first test (this happened to us too).
