Chickenpox: how long before getting spots

DS1 has fully fledged chickenpox. He was under the weather and running a temp for two days and then started getting the archetypal blistery spots, after which he was much better.

DS2 started with the fever a day or two later, so we assumed he was next. However, this is day 4. He still has a raging temperature and still no spots. Has anyone known it take this long for the spots to come, or has he actually got something else?

My DD had a temperature for 3 days before getting a single spot, then 4 days for more to appear. Maybe there is a spot somewhere but you haven#t noticed it? She also had cold symptoms - runny nose and a cough.

That sounds very similar. Jolly good. Hopefully we'll get it out of the way for both of them at the same time then! They go to the same nursery so it's quite possible they've picked it up from the same person at the same time, rather than the little one having caught it from his brother. Thanks.

How high is the fever? If he has really had a raging fever for four days now I think you should phone your GP for advice.

I am in the same position with my three year old, really stressed about it as she only has what looks like one or two spots, a temperature and really lethargic. I am hoping a few more spots appear so that I at least know what is making her ill.
