Lump in toddlers neck

Hi

I have a ds who's 2. Ive noticed a lump in the left side of his neck before but didn't pay to much motive as he's had plenty of childhood bugs and been fine. He's well enough in himself now but my gran pointed it out again the other day and it does seem bigger. Bigger than pea sized anyhow and hard to touch. Difficult to say if it moves about as hes not keen in sitting still long. Dp took him to Gp who said it was a lymph node that was up and he may become Ill soon but he hasn't as yet and it's over a week ago and still quite big. He did have pneumonia about 4 weeks ago but seems well over that and has done for a while. I actually didn't notice it so much then either. Am I worrying over nothing or should I take him back to Gp? Feel a bit odd taking him when he's well in himself if that makes sense. Just wondered if I was making a mountain out of a molehill.

My poor dd (6 months) had this last month!!

When I picke her up she cried (I didn't notice the lump then) and I took her to doctors and they said viral.

Then about week later (still no visible lump) I was bathing my toddler and my husband came shooting up stairs saying she has a huge lump on her neck, it was size of golf ball .. Trip to hospital poor baby had a absess on her lymph node!!! She had to har a little op to drain it and antibiotics.

The reason I thought I would post is 1. The doctors said they hadn't seen in in so long untill now loads and loads of children are getting it (4 in ward that day) so they think a virus is going about attacking the node as such.

And 2 because my dd is a little chubby and doesn't have much of a neck :) the doctor said it could of been developing slowly and me not notice!!!

So just maybe keep a eye and see if little one finds it difficult or uncomfy to turn neck!!

But also saying that when my son was little and had chicken poxs it took ages for his lymph node to go down (months) so maybe the phnemonia is the result and jut taking time.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. He's still pretty ok in himself at the mo but just keeping an eye on it like you say. It's clearly not bothering him at the moment. It moves about as well. Poor lad seems to get everything. He's two years old and been in hospital three times. Hope tour little one is ok now xx

There are lots of glands in the neck and they can swell up during illness to quite a big size and take time to go down again. I took DD in about something similar when she was about 3. I was worried because I'd noticed that the glad stayed big for ages. I held off taking her for a while but went eventually and was told that it was because of the chronic infection she had had. I haven't checked it or noticed since so I assume it's gone down now.
