Boys Bits - is this normal do you think?

This sort of thing has probably been posted a million times before.

DS aged 4 appears to have recently discovered that his foreskin will roll back!

To the point where he won't leave it alone - 'I'm just checking my willy mummy' 1000times+ a day

Last week the foreskin appeared to get stuck - and it took a while for it to go back to normal ie cover the top of his willy (10 mins maybe - we were lying in a tent at the time - conversations about foreskins in tents at 7am at 4 year old volume probably entertained a few other campers, I imagine). This didn't appear to bother him (foreskin, not dawn conversation) too much though it clearly felt odd for him.

Anyway, tip of foreskin now a little red, DS still won't leave it alone, but says it isn't really sore except 'a little bit'. I don't think it's infected - no lumps or white bits or anything.

DH wants to take him to GP. DH was circumcised when he as similar age to DS - he tells me he swapped his foreskin for a yellow submarine. He thinks it might be because his foreskin wasn't doing what it should, but is too embarrassed to ask his mum exactly what! Anyway, not having any memory of a foreskin himself he is also a little in the dark.

What does anybody out there think?

It sounds fine. You leave it alone. Might want to teach your DS to wash his hands more in general.

Sounds pretty normal. Once they discover it they can't stop playing with it. Now is the time to encourage him to roll it back in the bath and swoosh his willy around to maintain good hygiene.

his fiddling is normal, some foreskins go back at age 4, some do not, both are normal.

the fact that he is fiddling soooo much means he may get an infections, esp if his hands arent always clean (if he is anything like my 4 yr old boy they wont always be clean!) anywa the redness may indicate an infection which would be easily treated by cream or antibiotic from the gp.

it getting a bit stuck is also normal esp when he is first learning to pull it back etc. it it gets properly stuck you may need to take him to a&e, but if it gets stuck again a simple trick is to stick him in the bath as the warm water will help it stretch back. let him do it tho, you shouldnt ever try and retract his foreskin. he will know how much pressure to use and shouldnt hurt himself, as he will feel what is comfortable and what isnt.

haha, sounds like ds who is nearly 4. Spensa bout 20 times a day telling me 'I'm just patting my tail mummy'

Thanks for the reassurance everyone, paranoid DH will probably still take DS to GP. It might be an idea to get something anti-biotic like as we are going away tmw and over the bank holiday - these things always kick off over a bank holiday weekend in my experience - and I DO NOT want to go to A&E as it's 40 mins drive away from where we will be staying!
