Repeated vomiting episodes. Please help.

My 2 year old DD has been suffering from episodes of vomiting for over 6 months now, the initial episode was extremely severe and resulted in her being admitted to hospital for dehydration. The following episodes have occurred with ever growing frequency, from an initial 6 weekly period to what now is less than a fortnight between bouts.

Several visits to GP have left is with the same diagnosis each time, virus.

My issue with this is not only the frequency of the bouts, but the lack of any other symptoms alongside the vomiting and the almost predictable routine of it.

It always occurs first thing in the morning, without exception. It is always sudden and violent vomiting, about 3 or 4 times within an hour or 2 and then she will simply carry on with her day. No temperature, no rashes or other physical signs that she is ill. She just begins her day with vomiting and that's it until the next fortnight when it happens again!

I am at my wits end, although she is a happy and otherwise healthy little girl I know that something is happening in her little body to make this happen, and no doctor will look into it as they just assume its viral. It's happened again this morning and I plan to camp out at the clinic on Monday until someone takes me seriously, but in the meantime I wondered if anyone has ever seen anything similar? I'm desperate for clues that I can mention to the doctor.

you could try googling cyclical vomiting syndrome?

Totobear · 18/08/2012 17:39

Could it be some sort of reflux issue?

CMOTDibbler · 18/08/2012 17:44

I had cyclic vomiting syndrome for years - always started vomiting in the morning, then it would carry on, very violent. It may be a type of migraine as mine went into classical migraine eventually - which is more pleasant than vomiting for 16 hours with nothing to be done about it.
I'd def ask about it

MissPants, my ds1 was suffering from morning vomiting last year - his was a symptom of hydrocephalus.

I certainly don't want to scaremonger, but the experience we had was that the GPs were looking for gastro and emotional issues and could have missed something much more serious.

I hope you get some answers tomorrow - don't leave until you do.

Sounds very much like it could be Cyclical vomiting syndrome (cvs) - ds1 started with it age 4. Very similar in that he had no other symptons. His attacks then were very prolonged (at least 6 days of vomiting and sleeping). He was diagnosed quickly thanks to the advice of a fellow mumsnetter. His attacks are less frequent now (age 8). That said, we are currently camping and he started an episode this morning - cvs and camping are not a good mix (had to stop mid-typing to catch more sick!).
