If its going to work, how long will calpol take?

8mo DD woke with a temperature of 39.1 over an hour ago. Gave calpol, fed and stripped, went down a little but now stuck between 38.1-38.4. She's done two very runny smelly poos but otherwise seems fine herself, we're in a different timezone and it's 5:20am so obviously she's tired.

How much longer do I give it before getting (more) worried

I wouldn't worry too much at that temp tbh just keep an eye on her

37 + or -1 is normal, so 38.4 is OK on a warm day. Just keep an eye on her and keep her hydrated after the runny poos.

Its come down almost a whole degree and tbh you cant expect much more than that. It sounds like shes probably got a wee tummy bug.

Just keep an eye on her temp - strip her off a bit etc and keep her fluids up.

Jo need to worry at all- a temperature - unless it's very high isn't a cause for concern in a healthy child if she's well in berself.Keep her cool, make sure she's taking fluids and relax!

Thanks all - we live in southern California so maybe just the nights are too hot for her even with the windows open

ok in anticipation of tonight, I'm going to get a fan but if she wakes with a temperature should I stick clear of medication, seeing as she's just hot? She already goes to bed in just a nappy, window is open, I can take in a bottle of water (don't want to start encouraging even more night feeds!!), but lay off calpol?

Imho if she'll take the calpol and it makes her more comfortable I'd give her it.
