Will my 11yo DS loose his front teeth?

My beautiful DS went to a skate park for the first time today on his scooter and managed to fall off landing on his face. Thankfully he was wearing a helmet but I took him to the dentist as he had chipped his front tooth. I was expecting the dentist to cap his tooth and send us on our way but unfortunately his front teeth have now been splinted and the dentist has told us to pray that his teeth can recover from the trauma and that they don't go black over the next 2 weeks as that means that they have died.

I'm in shock, I'm so worried about him loosing his front teeth and can't stop thinking about what might happen next. Does anyone have any experience of this? Skateparks will no longer be on our summer holiday to do list!!

I smacked my front teeth at the same age going over the handle bars on my bike

they went black, I had root canal and temp crowns then permanent crowns at 18 -they are fine and no one can tell

my niece had a tooth knocked out by a hockey stick, they stuck it back in and it's fine

teeth are funny things but dentists are brilliant so try not t worry too much

Thanks work shy, that's making me feel so much better, I started to google children's dentures earlier until my dh reminded me about bridges etc. Think the dentist has scared me a bit to honest!

A friend of mine went over the handle bars of her bike & landed on her teeth when she was about 16ys. The dentist had to pull them straight . They did go grey & she had them veneered. Look better than before the accident.

I smacked my face about age 6 but with full adult front teeth. My two front teeth twisted all the way round and went black.... Sad

Dentist twisted them back round and said to hope for the best!

I had to have braces when I was older but would have probably had to have that anyway. Very healthy teeth now!!

Fingers crossed your boy is OK.

Teeth stuff is traumatic, I'd blanked this out until I was about 22, had a dream and had to ask my Mum if it was true!

Dd1 snapped her front tooth in half aged 9. The emergency dentist covered it with a temporary filling, which lasted until last week. She has had a similar temporary filling put on again. She has to be careful about biting hard food yes it was my cooking that caused her filling to break off Blush.

We were warned that her tooth might die, but it didn't. We are very grateful to the emergency dentist.

Thanks for the replies everyone, seems it quite commen amongst young children then, he went to bed feeling so sorry for himself. Sad thankfully my dentist was great and saw us really quickly, it could have been so much worse.
