Any opticians about? Worried about DS's eye test.

DS (5) had his first eye test today. The optician said all was well except that there were 2 concerns.

  1. The results of his colourblind test (following a coloured line with his finger across different coloured circles) was "inconclusive".

  2. He was unable to always focus on the optician's light (and on text) when it was moved from far away to near his nose. He could focus on it till it got nearer to his nose then the optician said "his eyes gave up focussing".

I asked the optician if I needed to be concerned and he said "probably not" but he wanted to see him again in 6 months, when I asked him to explain he said that DS can focus on text at reading distance so that's OK but "sometimes eyes give up on focussing completely" - eek.

TBH I should have asked him to explain further but DS2 was screeching his head off.

Any opticians around who can tell me what the inability to focus on close up things is all about and if it is indicative of any problem/ likely to get worse?

MAny thanks x
