Hi All,

Ive just been reading an article by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that says soothing babies gums with teething products that contain benzocaine can be dangerous. Are there any UK Teething products any one is aware of that contains this? For those of you like me that had never heard of this before -

Benzocaine is a local anaesthetic found in over-the-counter products such as Anbesol, Orajel and Baby Orajel, Orabase which can lead to a rare but potentially deadly condition called methemoglobinemia, which decreases the amount of oxygen carried through the bloodstream. The FDA have released a press release which states that Children younger than 2 are at particular risk for the condition.

Has anyone heard of anything about Benzocaine before?

Thanks

Meg
