Stubborn grommets half-way out

DD (now age5) had grommets fitted a year ago (plus adenotonsillectomy). She's had a ridiculous amount of ear infections since (very few before, but that's another story)

She's had one grommet sitting visible in her ear canal for 3+months and we were given saline drops to try loosening it but it's not shifted. Now, following the worst ever infection which has at last cleared up (copious discharge for 3+ weeks and 3 lots of ABs plus drops) I can see what I guess is the grommet (hooray!) in her ear canal- it's so furred up, it just looks like a white lump, but I'll get that professionally confirmed.

Anyway, I'm wondering whether to ask for a specialist appointment to see if they can hoik the grommets out. I'm not going to risk trying it and the GPs won't touch them either!

I thought I'd ask if anyone has had similar experiences and what did you do?

Thanks

P

Ds has had a grommet sitting in his ear canal since at least February (last ent appointment). It's been visible since about March/April. It looks just like a white hama bead.

I don't think they generally remove it. Ds's has gained a lot of wax round it, but they just say it will work it's way out eventually.
