Grommets - is this an infection or just normal?

Ds had his adanoids removed on Friday and grommets put in. He doesn't have a temperature but is complaining every once in a while that his right ear hurts and his neck. He did wake a couple of times in the night. He also has some gunk coming out of it but nothing from the left.

When he's distracted he seems to forget but I feel sorry for him. The anesthetic has also been quite tough on him.

Typically we are on holiday in Wales at the moment, I did check with the ent if we should go and he said yes us everything you read about grommets makes them sound so easy with no problems. I've googled the local doctor's number!

Anyone got any experience of this?

Hi my Ds 23mths had grommets fitted a couple of months ago and he had some discharge from one ear and pain also. The g.p gave him antibiotic ear drops and oral antibiotics just as a precaution as he felt it was just the "glue" still coming out. Apparently they suction as much out as possible in theatre but they expect some to still be draining a few days later. Hope this helps Smile

I would be calling the GP local to where you are and get him checked. Better safe than sorry.

So I took him to the doctors first thing this morning and we have some antibiotics. He couldn't see the ear drum due to gunk and couldn't tell if it was an infection but thought we should have some anyway. He thinks the neck pain is due to the position he was in during the operation when his muscles were really relaxed.

On the plus side I had to ask directions from a delicious Welsh postie!
