Verruca cures anyone?

Hi DS has two verrucas on his big toe (I assume from swimming, he has lessons weekly). I have tried the bazzuka gel that doesn't seem to do much to be honest. Is it worth getting the expensive freeze treatment or taking him to gp? Also I'm worried about ds2 catching them as they share a bath etc. What precautions should I take? I make sure he wears slippers or socks and doesn't go around house with bare feet, has his own towel etc.

DS2 had a lovely crop of them two years ago. I took him to the Chiropodist in the end, she gave us some stuff called Glutarol to apply twice a day and do some filing inbetween. (Not as horrible as it sounds)

It did the trick but it took about 2 months. Neither DS1 or me and DH caught them.

Our DD1 also caught it during swimming. Never seen one myself so took her to GP for diagnosis, she gave us some stuff similar to bazooka, which made a right mess of her sole, even though we were really careful only to use it on the actual spot. In the end, after about 2 weeks of using it, we ditched the stuff and bought some natural thuja oil and homeopathic thuja pills. She's been on thuja for a few days now and her verruca looks visibly better. Interested to see if it'll get rid of it ...

forgot to say, unfortunately, our 14 month old DD2 has also caught it possibly in the bath, but not our DS :-(. We're being extra careful around the house now!!

try using duct tape, dd had warts on elbow for over yr and a half and in 3 weeks they were gone!!! completely and not back 2 yrs later. its supposed to work too with verrucas as it pretty much the same virus, but must be anal about keeping it covered, can't let air to it or it can breathe. best to put on enuff tape to cover it then put fabric plaster over it to keep inplace,

Shutupanddrive · 02/08/2012 19:20

Thankyou I will try the duct tape next!

Really? How long do you keep the tape on for ?

blabalalalablabla · 02/08/2012 19:28

the only thing which worked in this house after months of trying duct tape, banana skin, bazooka etc was salactol paint. Got rid of ours within about two weeks. You've got to be v careful to paint it on only on top of the verruca, we put vaseline around the outside of the verruca to stop it getting on healthy skin. Had to scrub really hard with the pumice and occasionally I picked at it with a needle to try and get rid of the dry skin.

Shutupanddrive · 02/08/2012 21:00

Ds would never let me pick at it with a needle! Wish i could though, i love picking! I've looked up the duct tape method. Apparently you need to keep it covered constantly so as soon as one piece falls off put another one on. If the air doesn't get to it at all it kills the virus. Worth a try

I second the duct tape. I think we left it on for about three weeks.

blabalalalablabla · 02/08/2012 21:50

the only problem I found with the duct tape is that it made all of the normal skin start to go a bit manky as that was getting starved of oxygen too - I couldn't work out a way to get the duct tape to stick in smaller pieces so had to practically cover the heel.

stealthsquiggle · 02/08/2012 21:53

Isn't there a school of thought nowadays that says you just leave them to run their course?

McFarts · 02/08/2012 21:59

Nail varnish seriously! DD2 had the biggest verruca id every seen! the black bit in the centre was almost the size of a 5p, was also VERY painful Sad we tried alsorts over about 6 months (spent a bloody fortune). I read on here about using nail varnish, coat it on a few times each day its apparently best to use a dark colour although i used baby pink as thats all i had (not into nails lol) it was gone it under 2 weeks!! We used the same method on DS it worked in less than a week, but his was much smaller that DDs.

angelcake1 · 03/08/2012 00:55

my daughter had mosaic verrucas from swim club - tired everything medical and then 'banish the blotch' - it's herbal and you rub in oil twice daily. it's brillient and works!
You can get it from the internet or some chiropodists - as verruccas are viral they will go when they decide! I can't tell you how fab this stuff is - all cear within about 2 weeks. :))

Apple cider vinegar works on mine and the kids every single time. Dip a cotton wool ball in it then tape it over verruca at nght and get them to wear sock over it. Repeat every night and after a week you will be able to peel the verucca off
