Vomiting after insect bites

DS (aged 6) woke on Monday night because there were mozzies in his room. We swatted quite a few and settled him back down. Half an hour later he was crying because he had been sick. At the time I thought maybe he had a tummy bug and he had heard the mozzies because he wasn't well, but it was just a one off spew and the next day he was fine. But he is now absolutely covered in insect bites from head to foot. Some of them are 4 - 5 inches in diameter and really bothering him. Have given him piriton and am applying anthisan, but it has suddenly occurred to me that maybe the vomiting was related to the bites because of the severity of his skin reaction to the bites. And I consulted Dr Google and lo and behold - vomiting can occur with insect bites.

I am a bit worried that next time he gets bitten he will have an even worse reaction. He is going on holiday to France camping with his dad in a couple of weeks and am stressing that, if he gets bitten there, he will be in a worse state.

Anyone know if this sounds like an allergic reaction to bites? I can phone the GP but it is very difficult to get an appointment unless your head is hanging off...

It does sound like a bad reaction. I think the GP will tell you to use insect repellent.

If head to foot bites are you sure not urticaria/ severe hive reaction?
Contact doctor in case you need more than piriton to dampen this reaction down.
Also, maybe pop over to 'allergies' section here as very helpful.

thanks. i have phoned and asked to speak to a GP so am waiting for a call back. the NHS site recommends 999 for vomiting after insect bites. but at the time i didn't realise the vomiting was to do with the bites. it was only when the big skin reactions to the bites came out that i realised it could be linked. and from reading the NHS site, it says systemic reactions are likely to be within 30 mins of the bite occurring, and he vomited 30 mins after he called me in to ask me to stop the mozzies buzzing...

Hope it went ok with GP advice and your son feeling better.
