Dark mark round dd1 neck

It looks like ground in dirt but it's not. Looks like a sort of coffee mark. It's very odd and wondering if it's normal or if I need to get it checked out.
My dh is Italian family and she has darker skin than me but this is fairly new crop up.

Is it all the way round ? could if possibly be a tan line ?

lisad123 · 24/07/2012 23:11

No just at front of neck, sort of where Adams apple would be if she were a boy. Def not a tan line.

dirt?

slartybartfast · 24/07/2012 23:16

have you tried scrubbing it with soap and a flannel?

5madthings · 24/07/2012 23:17

two of my boys get this, sometimes i scrub at it in the bath but it doesnt do anything other than make the skin read, i think its partly tan, but i wonder about ground in dirt?! i have no idea, do you think its something to do with melatonin levels in teh skin?

lisad123 · 25/07/2012 07:07

Def not dirt Grin but thanks for suggestion, but certainly have tried washing it off.

I would say it's a tan mark then, if you think about it, the neck is normally exposed most of the time.

twitchypalm · 25/07/2012 21:48

My dd has exactly the same in the same place. Ive now put it down to a tan after trying to scrub it off many a time. I have to admit it does look like dirt though lol.

Could be a pigmentation thing to do with ethnicity caused or aggravated by the sun. Can you ask any relatives if they've had experience? Not specifically an Italian thing but might be a throwback gene that is prone to pigmentation changes.

wish we could but we know of dh family :(

my dd's friend has this. it isnt anything to worry about. but ask GP next time you go -they can refer to a dermatologist to check her out to reaasure you.

Could be acanthosis nigricans, google it, it's quite distinctive. Or could just be her skin tone, my DS is mixed race and he has slightly darker rings round his neck, paler in his creases. It's not a tan coz his groin is the same and rarely sees the light of day lol.
