Why is my baby's tongue BLUE?

5 months old, just started Neocate (yesterday). Has 5mg Losec a day.

For the past 48 hours her tongue has had a blue sheen / tint to the top, as though she's been sucking a lollipop.

Have investigated all the toys. Not blue. Looked at her clothes. Not blue.

Nails, lips, gums all pink and normal.

I haven't called a doctor as she seems fine apart from surf tongue. Laughing, babbling, sleeping etc.

Pretty sure it's not cyanosis as she has no other symptoms and it's just the top of her tongue.

Am perplexed.

She's had a lot of health checks and has reflux and milk protein allergy.

Any ideas? Don't want to drag her an hour away to A&E and pay $200 (not in UK) to be told that... it's just blue.

Could she have bitten her tongue?

IMO babies should not ever be blue and despite the money involved I would be getting my DS checked out, I would want his oxygen levels done and request a blood test. It could be a number of things.

You cant put a price on reassurance.

Not sure whether to write the following and worry you, but think i have to.
I used to know somebody whose baby had blue lips. Nobody (health staff wise) picked up on it. Within days the baby died of a heart defect - there were no other clues that there was a problem (baby very content etc) than the blue lips. I think that $200 is a small price to pay to be sure that there isn't a problem.

Ops DD does not have blue lips.

Googling suggests it can be associated with reflux. So hopefully it's that.

Updating in case this appears when someone has the same issue. It was the Losec Mups! We stopped the meds on the pediatrician's advice and tongue back to normal.
