Hoping there is someone here who csn help me to help my friend, please?

Friend has been telling me for some months now about her poor granddaughter who has (she says) epilepsy. DGD does not live locally so I have not met her or friends DIL (who is widow). Child I assume is on meds but still has 'fits' and has to have emergency injection in bottom? Sorry to be vague but this is only info friend has given/understands.

DGD is not able to attend school as school she was at before cannot cope or do not have staff to cover. Child has been receiving small amount of tution at home (LEA funded) but this is being withdraw. LEA has offered on line schooling but has now offered/found place in a school 'up north' for child who currently lives in south. This cannot be right can it?

I have suggested to my friend that DIL contact citizens advice and/or an epilepsy charity for advice (i have been in similar position with long term health issues - not epilepsy- of own DD so have experience of trying to access education) but my DF says her DIL does not like to ask for help or be labelled 'scrounger' - she had not applied for DLA or carers allowances as far as we know.

What education provision do other children with epilepsy have? Would it be appropriate to apply for statement? (dont believe this has been done yet?) I really want to help my friend who is so upset her DGD has to go through all this after loosing her father (my friends DS).

Thank you if you have managed to get this far through what turned into a slight rant, i realiseBlush
