Scarlett Fever - what should I be looking for?

Message from pre-school today that a child has been confirmed with Scarlett Fever and is now on abs.

Not too worried but what should I be looking out for and how long could it take to show in the dcs?

I'm assuming a rash of some sort and a sore throat but can you have one without the other. DD1 had a sore throat, a cough and a very sexy husky voice at the weekend but is fine now. tia

Severe sore throat, temperature, vomiting, redness on cheeks spreading across face, "strawberry" tongue. iirc it is fairly contagious with a few days incubation but ok after 24hrs ab's.

Sore throat usually 48hrs before the rash comes out. The rash is a bit like fine sandpaper and is very itchy. High temperature (although dd didn't have one). If your dd does develop scarlet fever I recommend piriton and calamine cream not lotion to go along with the abs.

One key symptom is that although there is redness around the face and cheeks, the area directly around the mouth stays white.

However, it can rarely develop asymptomatically (no rash, or no temperature, as with theone's DD) - I think then the symptoms can be similar to a virus.

Thanks for the replies - none of the above here [relieved emoticon]. DD2 is the only one who would have been in direct contact with the poorly dc and she hasn't been in pre-school since Friday so I think we've escaped this time of course I don't know how many may be incubating it in pre-school

Will wait and see and pray we don't bring it home for the holidays Confused
