Why do you wash your hands all the time? Confused

Mintyy · 16/07/2012 20:09

If people wash their hands after going to the toilet, after coming in to the house after being out and about for a while (eg. shopping or on public transport) and before prepping food, then that is reasonable, imho.

I guess if you do not have a child in nappies then washing your hands about 6 times a day is average and good enough?

Scared my daughter will get sick. Germs scare me! Am I over doing it?

Yes, she will get sicker and for longer if she is never exposed to any germs or dirt. Take reasonable precautions but do not try to bring her up in a sterile enviornment - it will be counter-productive.

Washing your hands all the time won't stop her getting sick. Kids get coughs and colds and sickness bugs no amount of hand washing will change that.

Wash your hands when you've been to the toilet/changed a nappy or if you get something messy on them. And relax! Babies are pretty tough! Of course there are nasty and dangerous illnesses that you really don't want her to get but excessive hand washing doesn't tend to have any effect on them and these things are rare anyway.

Put down the anti-bac and enjoy your baby Smile

Thank you both for your adviceSmile
It is hard but I will try my best to relax with the hand washing!

I'm with Mintyy.
Before food, after toilet, after being out for ages. It's enough.

The worse thing that can happen is that she will get sick. But then her immune system builds up. Therefore, it's good. Smile

She'll catch colds and other bugs as she comes more into contact with other messy kids. Try not to let it stress you.

So I live with my parents an they are nasty sometimes they don't wash there hands after they use the bathroom. An it gets annoying for me and them when I have to remind them all the time.. Should I just let it go?

Yeah, relax about that one. Just make sure the loo, sink and toilet door handles are regularly cleaned!

HerMomma · 18/07/2012 03:37

Okay thank you huggypombear Smile
It really grosses me out when they do that but guess I just have to let it go.. Do you know if my daughter can get sick from them doing that?

If they had gastroenteritis then possibly yes. If you all live together then you probably all have the same germs. Some exposure within the family home is actually good for your DD as it builds her immunity against the germs of random strangers. As she gets older you'll marvel at how much of a mess she'll get into. Don't worry about it and let her enjoy stuffing her hands into the flower bed!

Thank you huggypombear Smile
