Skin as dry & rough as sandpaper!

My ds aged 8 has always suffered with incredibly dry and rough skin covering his arms, legs and torso. Its so bad that even a paddle in the sea brings him out in a painful red rash, as do rough seams in clothing. We have tried all sorts of creams (inc prescribed from doctors, and the usual go to E45) but no luck. Any wise ideas / experiences?

Have you tried Aveeno? -or breaking open capsules of vit E and putting it on skin

No but will def give it a go; will try anything to stop ds feeling so itchy and sore!

Has he had allergy testing done?

Been to docs off and on since ds was about a year old (now 8), but never been suggested allergy testing. Is there any way of testing being done privately? Doc is lovely but because the skin doesn't actually crack / become infected doesn't seem overly concerned. The main problem is my sons feeling of discomfort and his self consciousness that his skin is so extremely dry, rough and sensitive.
