Eye Test

hi, I took DS to the optician to check his eyes today, just to be sure that he can see well before he starts Reception in September. He will be 4 at the end of July. I was shortsighted myself as a child and wore glasses from the age of 9. The optician said that he has good vision now but it was a lot closer to 20 20 vision than most 3 year olds (apparently they are much more long sighted when young and the eyes naturally gravitate towards 20 20 as they get older). Anyway, she said i should bring him back next year as his eyes might shift towards short sighted in the next couple of years. I don't want to worry unecessarily but has anyone had any experience of this? I wonder how likely it is he will need glasses, or might his eyes just stay as they are? Any similar experiences or advice would be appreciated.

Don't worry - just take him back for regular checkups.

FWIW, DH & I are both short-sighted. Only one of our children wears glasses, which he got when he was 11. The others all go for annual checkups and are all fine.
